Circle Engine

Cant wait to get my hands on this one.  I have made a ton of progress on my army but just havent posted any pics.  I shalll soon.  I got Grayle, Druids unit, Nyss hunters, Druid Wilder, Gnarlhorn and a War Wolf all done and ready.   The army has really come together and I am very happy with it right now.

Starting to really like Warmahordes

It has been a great time getting the army together and learning the new system.  I am almost done painting up to 25 points and just ordered some new minis from FRP games to get to 35.  I couldnt resist the epic Kaya and a Gnarlwood Satyr.

Overall even though I am getting my ass kicked repeatedly I really like how the game works and how games flow.  I played yesterday after work and was able to get in a solid, non rushed game in under 1 hour and 15 minutes.  The system is really slick and it just moves fast.  I cant really tell why its so much faster than 40k but it just flows better.

I am leaning towards passing on Ard Boyz now just so that I can secure more playing time for Hordes from the wife.  I only have 1 complaint about the whole deal:  PPress needs a unifying name for the system, Warmahordes sounds horrible from a Branding perspective.

I had a great time playing and want to play more.  As expected I got pounded my first game since I had totally blew deployment and understanding of cover but thats ok.

The Feral Warpwolves are pretty awesome and even tho the internets seem to poo on her, Kaya seemed really cool to me.  I have some work to do but I think I am pretty set for now.  The only minis i am eyeballing now is the Lord of the Feast and some other Warpwolves.

Hopefully I will get some painting in this week and more games in soon.  I dont really want to post any pics or anything until I have my army painted up.  I hate fielding unpainted minis, it drives me bonkers.

Here is the Warpwolf I am working on. Its a great mini even tho I struggled with the building for a couple hours and coated my fingers in superglue.

Great Kubla con

Overall this was the best Kubla con I have attended.

Top notch opponents especially my second and third game.

Great missions:  Really fun and different plus.

Great terrain and organization.  The guys that ran it this year just had it down.  Really well done

I got reamed on painting again but I dont really know what to say about that.  Maybe next time I will make sure I am there when the judge is in order to point everything out.  A little bummed here but its ok.

I will try and get some write ups and post the missions this week they were very cool

Ready for Kubla

Just finished this morning the whole army.  Hopefully tonight I get a chance to take a pic before I pack em up.

I am pretty excited for tomorrow and looking forward to meeting some new people and hopefully winning some games.

I know the Obliterator squads are a bit beardy but I am going to be going against SpaceWolves and I know my comp score will be fucked.  Considering that I played against 2 Razorback spam armies last time that had high comp scores who knows.

Regardless of the comp stuff I know I will have a good time.  This is always a fun tourney and I had some good practice this time.

Defiler out the door

They got voted off the island.

My main reason was that I just didnt see how I could effectively field them with all these tanks, MCs and Dreads.  I didnt want them to cause a traffic jam and cause they can shoot its too tempting to do that even tho its lame.

So my new list for Kubla is looking like:
2 DP Nurgle WT
Summoned Greater Daemon
2 CSM dreads with CC option
2 2 bikers with metlas and 1 with nothing
2 5 CSM squad in rhino 1 melta
2 4 CSM with a Champ 1 melta
3 2 obilt squads

6 oblits should provide a lot more FP and I could always DS them if I wanted to be crazy.

Playtesting my kubla list

Finally got a game in at 1850 with the deflier and my CSM Zilla list.

Overall I was pretty happy but I was not aggressive enough.  I need to push more of my army on top of my opponents if I am going to stand a chance.  I seriously dont know how I will handle long range and horde armies but it will be fun.

I just need not to overthink myself into bad decisions.

Game of Thrones was great

Very impressive.

I was very happy with the first episode.  The entire time I was thinking: " I can't believe that HBO is doing such a great job."  Not that I  had doubts I just wondered if it was doable.

Got my pass for KublaCon

Got my pass yesterday and am now signed up to play.

I am running CSM Zilla this year.

 I am tired of trying to play powerlists and overthinking them everytime so I am going to roll this:

I might tweak some things to either get zerkers instead of csms or maybe some combi-meltas on the champs.

Its a pretty simple list and basically just charges forward and gets the shit shot out of it.

Waiting for my first Hordes minis

I was supposed to get them yesterday but I am hoping they show up tomorrow.

I am really excited to get my Circle Battlegroup in order to start building up this new army.  I grabbed the rules at Game Kastle last weekend and so far I really like it.  I can't wait to start playing some games and figuring it out.  The game has some nice complexities to it and I think will be one that you can really grow into.

First Warmachine/Hordes game

Got a chance to get a little tutorial last night of Warmahordes and I have to say I really enjoyed it.  Many thanks to our teacher who was very patient.  I think I got a slight grasp of the system last night and it was very interesting.  Much more involved than GW's ruleset in some ways and  the rules seem very clear.  I am very impressed by the rapid development of Army books and updates but I have heard they are having some problems keeping up with demand.

So the big new is that I broke down and started bidding this morning on a Circle lot on Ebay.  I have decided to go for the druids just to do something completely different.  If I really get into it than Cryx will be my Warmachine army but I want to kick off with the Druids.  Even if I dont win this auction I am going to grab some minis soon.

This means my new goal with the Vcounts army is to finish building them and get them play ready and I think I will bust into painting as soon as I can on the Orbos stuff.

Ghoul dipping

Dipped the first batch with my oil based neon green mixed with Army Painter combo.

It got a little globby but overall its ok.  I am a little worried that they arent going to look that great but we shall see.  I still need to hit them with the dullcote and touch up but they are almost there.

 I am not too concerned on these since I think if I really get into Vcounts I will be replacing the ghouls with GWs eventually.

Progress on the Ghouls

Not the most fun but it is moving forward.

I just got this first batch of 20 ready for a massive dipping session today. There is a couple of experiments going on here and I am having a lot of faith in the Army Painter goodness right now.

I just really want to power through these Ghouls because I think generally they look pretty booty.

Vcounts painting started

I have finally started the process with the vcounts and started in on my least favorite of the Mantic minis I got: The Ghouls.

I hope they look ok, I am going to try something a little different with the dipping by adding in some oil based bright green paint to the army painter stuff.  Hopefully it makes them stand out since they dont look too different than the Zombies.

The rest of the Mantic stuff is pretty cool its just these that sort of blow.

Dipping experiment semi-successful: Bikers done

I have to say I am pretty happy with how these turned out.  After I hit them with a dullcote the dipping turned out pretty good.  Not my best of the best but these turned out pretty nice.  I have a little bit of cleaning up to do on them but I am pretty happy.  Hopefully these and the LR will allow me to get a better paint score in the upcoming Kublacon.  

Ard boyz 2011 ?

For some completely silly reason I have been pondering Ard Boyz.

Last Ard Boyz I had an ok showing but mostly due to some luck.  So this year I would love to throw Abaddon on the table.

This is what I am thinking:
Abaddon
1 DP Lash Wings
2/3 biker squads, Champ with pfist and 2 meltas
4/5 csm squads in Rhinos with melta
2/5 Chosen Squads in Rhinos with 2 melta/2 flamer
2/3 Oblits squads
8 Plague Marines with 2 melta 1 champ with fist in LR with Abaddon.

I think the CSM squads are too weak but all they are for is to hang out on objectives, turtle in the rhinos and take pot shots with the melta.  I might need a little more beef but I think this list could be better than last time.  One change I might make is pull out Abaddon for Huron and then sneak in the Greater Daemon but I will need champs.

Back to painting

Back into it.

I started painting my CSM bikers on Friday and have been thinking about it a ton.

I will post some pics today or tomorrow and I am pretty happy with how they are coming along.

Now if I could just learn how to use them :)

My last Ebay post on the girls

Even throwing this Canoness up there today.

This was my first conversion and I was always pretty proud of this unit because I thought it represented the Flying Nun Concept really well.

Hopefully someone grabs it and has fun with it.  In a way it is sort of liberating to unload the army but I know I will miss the minis when the new codex comes out.

Last big batch of Sisters going out the door

My last big batch of Sisters is selling today after this batch I will just have odds and ends to auction.

I am a little sad but hopefully someone who plays will get their hands on them and have a good time.  If you check out my blog and get any of the items please let me know.  It would be cool to keep tabs on the minis and hear about how they land and fair.  I hope the girls win some tourneys and games for whoever gets em.

Sisters of Battle on Ebay WAVE #2

Big wave today of girls going on Ebay.

This is the last big wave and then I have just odds and ends to throw up there.  I am a little sad about some of the girls going but the time has come to part ways with em.  I will especially miss this Sister Superior above since it was the first mini that I really accomplished blending with the cape.

I am hoping some cool Sisters players grab em and they get to see a lot of action.  They sure saw a lot with me.

Non-Fiction serious book

This book is insane.

Seriously I know this is mostly a 40k blog and focused in on Sci-fi but the shit in this book is nuts.

It proves the point that reality is always crazier than fiction.  S.C. Gwynne pulls no punches and has completely altered my view of American Indians forever. It is pretty shocking and very interesting.  Seriously for the first time it put a lot of American history in context for me especially our treatment of the Indian population.  I am not saying that it was justified in any way but it seriously sheds light on the entire story of the West.
Also if you live or go to the American SouthWest a bunch its worth reading just to really grasp the history of that region.  I highly recommend this book it will get you thinking.

CSM bikers

I got a chance to play my CSM bikers this weekend and it got me thinking:

Do CSM bikers BLOW ASS or is it how I played em?

I ran them up and then they got nuked in game one and then in game 2 they didnt do too much against drop podders.  Actually in game 2 they were sort of cool cause the double melta action was pretty effective.

But with no Invul save they are really weak out there and can get decimated by just bolters and such.  So I am really thinking if they are worth the cost.  In a lot of ways I hope so since I am burnt on fielding the same exact units with my csms.

1850 CSM bikers

Finally I am getting some games in and now have permission for the 1500 tourney at GameKastle.

For tonight since the host is forcing us to play 1850

Not sure this will do that will but it could have a nice attack force.  I am figuring the oblits and CSM squads to put down fire and deal with flankers/deep strikers and the DPs, GD bikers and Rhinos to be a nice vanguard to hit anything that comes down or race across the map.

Regardless I think it will be fun and even tho the bikers sort of blow I like how the models look.

The end of the Wargamer GUT

About 3 months ago I decided to do something drastic about my weight and ended up jumping on the Dukan Diet.
If you are a Wargamer this diet is a billion times easier than painting over 50 figs  the same.  If you have the patience for that you can do this.

Sad day

My girls have started the long march to ebay.

I put the first sister squad, celestian squad +immolator and an Exorcists up last Friday.

I am sort of sad but I need to pair down my minis and the cash wouldnt hurt either.  The logic for this is that the girls are going to get a codex refresh soon and all my metals will be worthless. Plus with the price increases Sisters are super expensive right now as well.
